Dr Phillip Lee, MP for Bracknell, visited residents affected by the recent floods at their homes in Friday 10th January.

Some of those worst affected included constituents living in Bullbrook, several of whom are over 70 years of age. Following torrential rain, burst river banks and an exceptionally high water table, residents were left dismayed as their houses were threatened by flood water. Nearby drains had also overflown, resulting in raw sewage leaking onto the streets. Dr Lee wanted to visit those concerned to see the damage for himself, and pledged to take action with the relevant authority.

Dr Lee heard that just a week before, residents and their families and friends had spent nearly nine hours pumping sewage and flood water away from their houses. Due to the enormous demand placed on resources in the local area, the residents of Bullbrook were forced to buy their own water pumps in an attempt to protect their homes. Later on in the day they were joined by fire crew, who helped to clear some of the water.

Dr Lee commented: “I visited several Bullbrook residents to see for myself the damage caused by recent flooding. I was shocked to discover that this was the fourth occasion on which sewerage has flooded into people’s privately-owned homes. I am writing to Thames Water, asking for an explanation as to their lack of intervention in this avoidable issue. I am also writing to Bracknell Forest Council to ask whether there is any way in which they can assist in the clear-up of the mess left in people’s back gardens. I hope this issue gets sorted promptly.”
